About

I’m Ian Cowan, and I have been teaching and tutoring on Maui since 2011. I graduated from California State University, Northridge, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Studies in 2008 and a teaching credential in Secondary Social Science and General Science in 2011. I was very involved with leadership in college and held the positions of Vice President and President of the Communication Association, respectively.

Maui welcomed me with open arms, and I’ve taught in most schools on the island, including coaching J.V. cross-country and volleyball at Maui Preparatory Academy. I’ve also taught Animal Systems and Marine Science at Lahainaluna High School for the 2013/2014 school year.

Music has been a life-long love. And now, with a few years of learning to play piano and flute, I’m ready to inspire others to play. I have a good grasp of music theory which I use to write, compose, and record songs. Tutor On is new, but my ability to build rapport quickly with any child is something I’ve honed over the last decade.

I work with homeschool students during the day and am licensed in Hawaii to teach science, social studies, and math. I am also a full-time pre-algebra teacher at Kihei Charter School. I’m successful at online tutoring through Skype and shine one-on-one.
